Change to Planning Rules in Elmbridge

22 Feb 2014

The national government has radically changed the rules regarding planning in England. This changed was based on the spurious notion that land-use planning is holding back growth in the economy. Without a plan in place for how we use our land in Elmbridge we would be swamped with development - houses, factories and offices all over our woods and heaths.  Our population would rapidly double or triple in a matter of a few years.  Many of the traffic and schooling problems that we have now would be dwarfed by such an onslaught. In order to protect our borough against such a tsunami the Elmbridge government has wisely prepared its own policies to make them watertight - known collectively as the Elmbridge Local Plan.  Many parts of England have not been so prepared and have seen speculative development unleashed in their areas. Elmbridge has stress tested all parts of its local plan.  If a policy needs to be reviewed such a review is underway, if a new policies need to be created Elmbridge is procuing them.  One such concept is the Development Management Plan. Once in place, this plan will be used to assess all new planning applications.  This is one of the it needs to be ive Local planThere are various documents that Elmbridge has had to review or create Consultation on Elmbridge Borough Council’s Proposed Submission Development Management Plan – 3 February to 17 March 2014 The Council is now at an advanced stage in the preparation of the , part of the Elmbridge Local Plan.  This document contains the detailed policies which will be used to assess planning applications and influence decision making in the Borough.  When adopted these policies will replace the saved policies contained within the existing Replacement Elmbridge Borough Local Plan (2000). The Council will be inviting representations on the legal compliance, or ‘soundness’ of the Plan over a six week period from 3 February 2014 to 17 March 2014. How to view the plan
