The national government's planning inspectorate has recommended that the borough's community infrastructure levy (CIL) be approved. This levy is a charge on some forms of new development, collected to help deliver infrastructure improvements in functions such as transport, education, health and leisure, as development comes forward.  The borough will now formally adopt the CIL.  Following this, it is expected that the borough will begin collecting the levy from 1 April 2013.
