The Liberal Democrat Group on Elmbridge Borough Council supported a motion to get all Group Leaders to sign a letter to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, urging for a suspension to the decision to scrap the Winter Fuel Payment.

This follows the Group's active effort to provide additional support to our most vulnerable residents and help them cope with the rising cost of living - made worse by fuel poverty.

In administration, we have demonstrated our commitment to addressing this by allocating an additional £150,000 to the Household Support Fund to boost payments to vulnerable households.

We have also boosted the cost of living support payment by an additional £100,000 on top of the already allocated £500,000.

The Council Group is committed to mitigating the damaging impacts of the policies of both the Conservative and Labour Governments.
