Put yourself in the picture - Elmbridge Self-Portrait Competition 2014: Me, Myself and I
Elmbridge has launched its first ever self-portrait competition - Me, Myself and I. From the earliest cave paintings to the selfie, we have been fascinated by trying to capture the essence of who we are on canvas, film or in stone. The Elmbridge Self Portrait Competition 2014 is your chance to show, as John Singer Sargent claimed that a portrait is more than “a painting with something wrong with the mouth” but, as Alexander Smith felt, like “being present at one’s creation”.
You can use any of the following media for your work: • Photography • Painting • Drawing • Printmaking • Sculpture • Mixed Media
The self-portrait competition is open to the burghers of Elmbridge and their children. There are four age categories: 7-11 (primary), 11-14 (secondary), 15-18 years and ages 19+. Closing date for entries is Wednesday, 29 October 2014. Prizes will vary per age group. Winning entries will be exhibited at the Riverhouse Arts Centre in January 2015. For full terms and conditions and entry details, or email arts@elmbridge.gov.uk or call 01372 474584.
