Station South Entrance opens

20 Jul 2014

I remember using the south ramp when I commuted up to town over thirty years ago - the car park was free too and the train went non-stop to Waterloo. First they began charging for the car park, then they ended the non-stop service and then they closed the entrance. But thanks to the dogged determination, over many years, of Cllr Peter Harman, of the St Georges Hill Independents, South West Trains has agreed to open the gates - at least while the barriers are open on the north side. This will mainly be at off-peak times but it is a beginning.  Perhaps one day we will be like Denmark, Germany or Netherlands and we will not need barriers because we are all honest. Then the gates can be open all the time.
