I am proud to represent Weybridge Riverside as one of your councillors. I was brought up in Kingston and attended Tiffin School. After working in the Royal Navy as a Weapon Systems Engineering Officer, I took a career breakpoint opportunity to become a physics and science teacher. I moved to Weybridge over twenty years ago with my family and taught in local schools until retiring from full-time teaching in 2020. I have been involved with rowing for many years as a competitor, coach and umpire, mostly with Weybridge Rowing Club, I am a keen orienteer, walker and cyclist. I also sing with a local choir.
Since being elected, I have worked with my colleagues as a member of the South Area Planning Sub-Committee to try to maintain the character of Weybridge by striving to ensure that we build the right size and type of homes and protect our green spaces. I became actively engaged in the Brooklands Accessibility Project and was pleased that my proposals to improve the town paths, including installing lighting, smoothing out two dangerous right angle bends and extending the route through to Churchfields car park, were all implemented.
Since May 2021 I have been a member of the Cabinet with a portfolio for the Environment. This includes responsibilities for co-ordinating the council’s response to the climate emergency, aiming to make the council’s operations carbon neutral by 2030, overseeing waste management and air quality monitoring.
