Councillor Laurence Wells
I am a freelance teacher and tutor having had a diverse career in commercial legal practice, the ski and property industry and even as a police officer in Brixton. Having been brought up in Elmbridge, I have lived in Cobham with my family since 2015.
Cobham is a beautiful village with wondrous green spaces; access to nearby heath and woodland; a vibrant high street; and excellent primary schools and free school as well as a plethora of private schools. However, like much of England, it is not without issues in terms of socio-colonic inequality; air, water and environmental pollution; and severe pressure on social and health services.
I aim to first of all do what I can as a leader of my community by representing and advocating for Cobham and individual residents. In addition to this - as wells as getting my hands dirty by litterpicking and leading community litterpicks - I also work with stakeholders to improve situations such as Surrey County Council and access to the countryside; planners and developers to enhance and improve biodiversity in developments; PA Housing (the principal social housing provider in Cobham) to improve social tenants’ well-being; and working with Clean Up Britain to hold National Highways to account for the state of litter on the A3 and M25.
